The president of Nea Salamina, Paris Andreou, gave an interview to “SPOR FM 95.0” and spoke about everything related to his team.
He discussed the team’s performance on the field, the transfer plans—which appear to have been finalized—and was critical of the refereeing in the season opener, noting that, as is well known, the club filed a complaint.
He also emphasized that the violent incident following the team’s fan day tarnishes AEK’s reputation, noting that the club has no connection to such incidents. At the same time, he stressed that they will do everything possible to ensure that their upcoming match takes place without any tension.
Here are his comments in detail
On the first match: “Overall, the team had some pretty good stretches; the team missed quite a few chances—with a little luck, we could have come away with the three points. it’s a new team—11 new players—that needs to develop cohesion, and we’re optimistic.”
On the team’s performance: “There were many positive aspects, but some weaknesses were exposed—which are a matter for the coaching staff. We’re focusing on the positives and working to correct those weaknesses.”
On fan attendance: “Fan attendance was very important; the fans needed this, and we, as management, are doing everything we can to be more dynamic and make the fans proud.”
What is Nea Salamina’s goal: “We’ve reviewed the data, and while it’s difficult to say we’ll finish in the top six, we’ve said from the start that the team must remain in the top division this year and in the years to come. We know who we are and what our financial situation is; our goal is to work our way up, not down.”
On transfers: “In soccer, you can never be sure what might happen; barring any unforeseen circumstances, there won’t be any more transfers.”
On the refereeing in the match against Olympiacos: “We had serious complaints about the refereeing, and for that reason we have filed a formal complaint. We believe mistakes were made that cost our team; what bothered us most is that the refereeing wasn’t fair—it has nothing to do with Olympiacos Nicosia. We have a complaint regarding the refereeing; what we want going forward is equal treatment.”
On the game against AEK: “It’s an interesting game; we’re playing at home, and we definitely want to win. A tense situation has arisen because of the incident that took place.”
On the incident involving the fans: “This incident involved criminal behavior, and at the end of the day, it tarnishes the name of AEK, which has nothing to do with any of this. Given these circumstances, we had requested that the fans be relocated; the police had their own recommendations; what was decided is that AEK fans will be allowed to attend, but in reduced numbers. We’ll do everything we can to ensure the match takes place exclusively at the stadium. Meetings will be held in the coming days regarding the match, and fans should come to the stadium to support the team without any tensions.”
Regarding “Famagusta – Return” and the licensing issue: “We have completed the procedures, and the application is being prepared to be sent to the licensing authority; the reason for the delay is that the cameras had to be delivered and installed.”
