“In light of the recent events that have created tension, the Veterans’ Associations of Nea Salamina Famagusta and AEK Larnaca wish to send a joint and clear message.
As people who have served the sport of soccer and understand the value and power of sports, we consider it our duty to remind everyone that soccer should unite, not divide.
Competitive rivalry is part of the game and must remain within the four lines of the field. For 90 minutes, we are opponents. After the final whistle, however, we are all human beings, friends, and members of the same society.
We condemn all forms of violence, insults, provocations, and misconduct that tarnish the image of our clubs and Cypriot soccer.
We call on all fans to demonstrate respect, self-restraint, and sportsmanship, upholding the values that sports should embody and setting the right example for the younger generation.
Nea Salamina and AEK each have their own rich history, their own sources of pride, and their own supporters. We can be different, love different colors, and passionately support our team—without being enemies.
Rivals for 90 minutes.
Friends, people, and companions for a lifetime.
Let’s leave behind whatever divides us and hold on to what unites us:
OUR LOVE FOR SOCCER.
Nea Salamina Famagusta Veterans’ Association
Association of Former AEK Larnaca Soccer Players”
