Atromitos came away from Serres with a valuable “away win,” defeating Panserraikos 1-0 in the first matchday of the League Phase of the Greek Cup, thanks to a goal by Sotiris Tsiloulis in the 80th minute.
The game was slow-paced for the most part, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. Panserraikos had the upper hand at various points in the first half but was unable to find the back of the net, while Atromitos had its own moments on the attack.
In the second half, the picture didn’t change significantly, with the pace remaining slow. However, in the 80th minute, the Peristeri side found the breakthrough. Anastasis Kotsis played a long ball, Haris Iliadis took a… misstep, Sotiris Tsiloulis found himself one-on-one with Victor Sakalidis and, with a cool finish, sent the ball into the net to make it 0-1.
Panserraikos tried to mount a comeback in the final minutes, but failed to find the equalizer, with Atromitos holding on to its lead until the end and kicking off its run in the League Phase of the Cup with a victory.
