Fenerbahçe managed to secure a spot in the Champions League group stage after a hard-fought battle with Lyon in the playoffs.
After a draw at home, the Turkish team traveled to France for the second leg, where they won 2-1. With an aggregate score of 3-2, they secured the coveted qualification, while also securing their place in Europe’s top club competition.
During the celebrations, players from the Turkish club, Mason Greenwood and Mateo Guendouzi, made obscene and provocative gestures toward the stands where Lyon fans were seated, creating immense tension and provoking strong reactions among the home fans.
UEFA announced that it is launching an investigation into these two players, who face severe punishment, including exclusion from the Champions League, if they are found to have violated the European federation’s relevant disciplinary regulations.
