Omonia failed to win the Super Cup, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Paphos at the “Alfamega Stadium.” The “Greens” had some good stretches in the first half, but failed to create enough opportunities to pose a real threat to the opponent’s goal.
In the second half, the situation was even more problematic. Omonia struggled to maintain possession, was unable to effectively move the ball forward into the attack, and was limited to very few good moments, with Mayabela’s chance standing out.
Henning Berg tried to turn things around from the bench by shuffling the midfield lineup. At the start of the second half, Tanase and Brawers entered the game, followed by Evandro, Kakoullis, and Hatzigiovanis. Essentially, the Norwegian coach changed almost the entire lineup from midfield forward, seeking more creativity and intensity—which didn’t materialize.
Of course, it must be taken into account that the “clover” is still in the process of… coming together. Tanase and Brewers made their debuts, and it will take time for the new signings to adjust and develop better chemistry with their teammates.
After losing the Super Cup, the “Greens” return to the “Alphamega Stadium” for the derby against Aris (September 7 – 8:00 p.m.). There, they’ll need to show more intensity, better ball movement, and finally, the Norwegian coach’s team needs to find the back of the net after two games.
