The District Court of the city today ordered a seven-day detention of the two Turkish Cypriots who were involved yesterday in a violent chase by the police through the streets of Limassol, was ordered today by the city’s District Court, where they were brought.
It should be recalled that yesterday, Thursday, the police arrested the two individuals, aged 19 and 20, following a pursuit of their vehicle and a series of traffic and criminal offenses on their part.

Specifically, around 10:40 a.m. yesterday, while members of the Bicycle Patrol were conducting traffic checks in the Limassol area, they attempted to pull over a vehicle for inspection, which did not have a front license plate.
The driver of the vehicle, while initially complying with the police officers’ signal, subsequently accelerated toward them, putting them in danger. Subsequently, he continued driving recklessly and dangerously, failing to stop at intersections, running red lights and ignoring other traffic signals, and colliding with parked vehicles.
Specifically, the driver attempted to run over two police officers. The first was a member of the bicycle patrol who initially stopped him for a check; when the officer approached, the driver accelerated and managed to escape. The officers then managed to stop him again, but he accelerated once more, putting another officer in danger, while on a third attempt, he struck another police officer, injuring him.
After the van was stopped, the police asked the driver to take a drug test, to which he replied, “I took some crystal.” Ultimately, the test came back positive for methamphetamines.
During the attempt to stop the vehicle—as a reminder—police officers fired warning shots.
