The changes and reforms to be implemented during the new 2026–2027 school year were presented today, Friday, September 4, 2026, during a press conference at the Ministry, by Dr. Athina Michailidou, Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth.
Among the topics discussed today was the progress of installing air conditioners in schools, where there still appear to be outstanding issues in various districts
Specifically, as mentioned in the presentation, the project is in full swing, and soon, all schools will have air conditioning for the first time. As noted, a large number of schools already have air conditioning in operation, while an even greater number have completed most of the procedures and are ready to begin operation very soon.
As for high schools by district, only Larnaca has completed the project, with 100% of its schools having the units installed and the air conditioners fully operational.
In Nicosia and Famagusta, installation has been completed in the majority of schools, but air conditioning units are fully operational in only 21% and 33% of the schools, respectively.
In Limassol, the project is 90% complete, while in the remaining 10%, installation has been completed but the air conditioners are not yet fully operational.
The Paphos district lags behind, with 33% having completed both installation and full operation, 33% having completed installation only, and 33% with the installation of air conditioners still planned.
As shown in the table below, the situation is even further behind for middle schools.
In elementary schools, too, the situation appears to be at roughly the same stage.
