Shortly after the Greek Football Federation’s Appeals Committee decided to exclude Levadiakos from the Superbet Greek Cup following the events that occurred during thematch against Asteras, the Boeotians issued a statement announcing that they would appeal to the CAS in an effort to overturn the decision.
Specifically, the club describes the decision as an aberration that defies common sense, constituting an unprecedented and blatant distortion of reality.
Here is the club’s statement in full:
“An absurd decision that defies common sense—we are appealing to CAS!
Levadiakos FC has been informed of the decision by the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) Appeals Committee, which, by a 2-1 vote, overturned the first-instance ruling that had ruled in our club’s favor in the case regarding the Cup match against Asteras Aktor.
This decision constitutes an unprecedented and blatant distortion of the substance of the case and sets an extremely dangerous precedent for Greek soccer.
Levadiakos played the match, defeated Asteras Aktor 2-0, and celebrated a thoroughly deserved advancement to the League Phase of the competition. Subsequently, the club found itself penalized for a computer error that was not caused by the club itself, but by the Hellenic Football Federation’s (EPO) registration system.
And yet, on appeal, the committee—chaired by Vice President Angeliki Makrygeorgou, who determined the outcome by a majority vote rather than unanimously— which is unprecedented for the decisions of this particular committee in recent years.
The story of this case does not end here, as it goes without saying that we will appeal to the CAS.”
