Pindarou is setting the stage for internal party procedures to select DISY’s candidate for the upcoming presidential election.
Anita Dimitriou, Averof Neophytou, and George Pamporidis remain in the spotlight, with the party president holding meetings this week with both of her potential rivals.
With Giorgos Pamboridis having recently stated on Alpha TV that he would step aside if an agreement is reached, but would otherwise seek the nomination from the party’s grassroots, the current and former DISY presidents met late yesterday afternoon and reaffirmed their determination to seek the party’s nomination.
According to the DISY Vice President, Yiannis Karousos, the meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, and he announced that further meetings between Annita Dimitriou and Averof Neophytou would be held.
“The Democratic Rally’s supporters expect and demand that their leaders—both current and former—demonstrate the necessary willingness to at least discuss this issue. And that is happening; I’m glad this meeting took place. It’s very important, and I hope there will be more meetings.” Yiannis Karousos, Vice President of DISY
Pindarou, however, seems to take one step forward only to take two steps back, as the introversion plaguing DISY persists, with Yiannis Karousos issuing warnings to supporters of Nikos Christodoulides within the party.
“No problem with anyone who wants to side with anyone else—just let us know—but in the morning at the Presidential Palace, at noon on Pindarou Street, no—I’ll name names if I personally find out that this is happening,” said Yiannis Karousos, Vice President of DISY.
Yiannis Karousos even said that what happened in 2023 was an internal coup against Averof Neophytou and the party.
