A new political controversy has erupted over the purchase of a new armored limousine intended for the President of the Republic.
AKEL, in a statement, commented on Nikos Christodoulides’ remarks regarding the purchase of a new armored limousine, noting that the decision to purchase it had been approved by the Council of Ministers on July 16, 2026, with the President himself presiding over the meeting.
The announcement reads as follows
Earlier today, referring to the purchase of a new armored limousine for the President of the Republic, Mr. Christodoulides he said that he had learned of this intention to purchase the vehicle from the press this morning and that he was unaware of it.
We would like to inform the President that the decision to purchase an armored vehicle was made by the Council of Ministers at its meeting on July 16, 2026, which he chairs.
We regret that Mr. Christodoulides, instead of acting with transparency, chooses to make a spectacle of himself, thereby—unfortunately—underestimating the intelligence of the public.
In any case, we will present our position on the substance of the matter on Monday before the relevant Finance Committee of the House of Representatives, where a relevant request has, in fact, been submitted.
