In her first remarks following her election, Sophia Christodoulou Makri, visibly moved, thanked EDEK members for the trust they had placed in her, noting that she understands the weight of the responsibility she is taking on.
At the same time, she spoke of a new beginning dawning for EDEK.

Across Cyprus, 2,233 EDEK members voted, and there were 2,225 valid ballots.
The results were as follows:
Sophia Christodoulou Makri: 1,191 votes, 53.5%
Koulis Mavronikolas: 788 votes, 35.4%
George Kouttoukis: 246 votes, 11.1%
