Everything went wrong for Olympiacos in Volos.
The "Red-and-Whites" took the lead but settled for a 1-1 draw at Panthessaliko Stadium in the third round of the Super League—their first loss of points in this season’s championship— while they also lost El Kaabi, who left the game shortly before the end of the first half after suffering a shocking injury.
Roca also left the game injured, with a problem in his left shoulder, as Olympiacos opened the scoring in stoppage time of the first half, when Zota Silva converted the penalty resulting from El Kaabi’s serious injury following his collision with Siabanis. The “Red-and-Whites” were visibly shaken in the second half, with Volos scoring the equalizer in the 76th minute via Komba, in a play that began with a misplaced back pass by Retsos.
The two teams will meet again next Tuesday (September 8, 9:45 p.m.) at Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium for the second matchday of the League Phase of the Superbet Greek Cup. For their next league match, Olympiacos will host OFI, before making their debut in this year’s Europa League at home against the Polish club Jagiellonia. Volos will face Kalamata in their next league match.
