A fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in a parked private vehicle located in the basement of a building in Strovolos.
According to the Fire Department, the call was received at 3:22 p.m., and two fully staffed fire trucks responded to the scene.
The fire caused extensive damage to the vehicle’s engine compartment, while minor damage was caused to the paintwork and equipment in the basement.
To extinguish the fire, firefighters used breathing apparatus to enter the basement and water hoses; the area was subsequently ventilated using a special device.
The cause of the fire is attributed to a mechanical or electrical malfunction.
In total, over the past 24 hours, the Fire Department responded to 32 incidents, including 15 fires, 14 special service calls, and three false alarms.
