The Police have announced a island-wide campaign of traffic checks aimed at stepping up enforcement against motorcycles and mopeds.
The campaign will begin on Monday, September 7, 2026, and will end on Sunday, September 13, 2026. Throughout the campaign, members of the Traffic Police will conduct targeted checks, placing particular emphasis on the use of protective helmets, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, speeding, and other dangerous and unlawful behaviors on the road.
According to data, between January 1, 2026, and September 3, 2026, 14 motorcycle and moped riders and passengers lost their lives in traffic collisions. Specifically, these included 12 motorcycle riders, one moped rider, and one motorcycle passenger.
