After a perfect season opener, came the “nightmarish” defeat at GSP Stadium that brought AEL back down to earth… with a bump.
The “blue-and-yellows” from Limassol were unable to prevail—not even when playing with 11 players, nor, of course, with 10, to get the better of APOEL, which was the superior team as it capitalized on mistakes and turned them into goals.
It was clear that Hugo Martins’ team “paid the price” for the careless errors that led to the first two goals, as well as for the absences of Čataković and Gomis, since they were almost never able to mount a serious threat, a fact that underscored just how much these two players will be missed.
Now, with time running out to sign a center forward by September 9, AEL is called upon to find a last-minute solution.
