There is concern within PAOK’s ranks over the condition of Dimitris Giannoulis, who was carried off on a stretcher, crying, after suffering an ankle injury in the final minutes of yesterday’s derby against Panathinaikos at the OAKA (3-1).
The international left back left the field on crutches and wearing a special brace to stabilize his ankle. Initial assessments suggest a severe sprain, which is expected to keep him sidelined for one to one and a half months.
However, a clearer picture will emerge after the 30-year-old star undergoes an MRI on Tuesday, as doctors believe it will take a few hours to assess his condition through imaging.
If the initial assessment is confirmed, Giannoulis will miss at least next Sunday’s derby against PAOK at Toumba, the Cup match against Atromitos in Peristeri, and the league match against Panetolikos in Agrinio, until the break for national team duty, during which the Double-Headed Eagle’s star player will also miss the Nations League matches against Serbia on the road (9/24), Germany away (9/27), and the Netherlands at home (10/1).
During his absence, Baba and Taylor will be called upon to fill Giannoulis’s void on the left side of PAOK’s defense.
