Nepal is going through difficult times, as the country is reeling from deadly floods, which have claimed the lives of nearly 1,500 people so far, while 5,000 are still missing.
In a statement, UEFA emphasized that it stands with the country as it faces this tragedy, noting that a one-minute silence will be observed before every Champions League match in honor of the victims. At the same time, it expressed its deep sorrow and solidarity with the families of those who lost their lives.
The same will happen in Nea Filadelfia, where AEK will host Linz for the opening match of Europe’s premier club competition.
Here is UEFA’s announcement in full:
“The entire European soccer family will stand together before this week’s matches to express its deep sorrow and support for the people of Nepal. We wish them strength and courage as they face this tragedy.”
You are not alone, Nepal.
This week, flood victims will be honored with a moment of silence ahead of all UEFA Champions League matches.
