In reference to the government’s major effort to transform the country, as well as the President of the Republic’s very important week of meetings, President Nikos Christodoulides himself referred to these developments in remarks he made to reporters tonight.
In his remarks, as he was arriving for a meeting with the Pan-Cyprian Grain Producers’ Organization in Aradippou, and in response to a journalist’s observation that this is a very important week, since he is traveling to El Alamein tomorrow, will meet with the Turkish Cypriot leader on Wednesday, and with the President of Israel on Thursday, the President of the Republic said that “tomorrow’s visit to Egypt is a very important one; there will be both a bilateral meeting and a trilateral meeting, with the Greek Prime Minister also in attendance.
This will be followed by a meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader; I hope there will be several more such meetings before we go to New York, I am fully prepared to meet with him every day if necessary until we go to New York.
There will also be a visit by the President of Israel.
There is also a lot of activity regarding developments in the region. A trilateral meeting of the Defense Ministers with Egypt is scheduled very soon, followed by a meeting of the Foreign Ministers; subsequently, we will host the official trilateral meeting in Cyprus.
And I consider all of this (important), as well as what is happening domestically—we had very important announcements yesterday regarding the child allowance, this major effort we are undertaking—which began with tax reform, continues now with pension reform, and includes many other measures—to boost citizens’ disposable income, all our actions are aimed at strengthening our country’s sources of power, both domestic and foreign, which contributes to the major effort to resolve the Cyprus problem.
And since we’re talking about factors of strength and security, we’re here (at SILO) to discuss this—it’s an issue that touches on our country’s security—and through the dialogue that will take place, we always stand by our producers; it was a good year, though I won’t overlook the problems with foot-and-mouth disease. We have an issue regarding the increased quantities available. I mentioned two countries earlier, Egypt and Israel—to note that these are two countries with which we can explore the possibility of exporting, given that there are available stocks, and all of this is part of our major effort to transform our country.”
When asked to comment on the House of Representatives’ decision to release the funds allocated for the vehicle used to transport the President of the Republic, President Christodoulides replied, “No comment on the matter of the vehicle.”
