Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan cited human error when referring to the shipwreck off the coast of occupied Kyrenia, following Monday’s Cabinet meeting. He noted that Turkey is supporting the search efforts for the sunken ship, deploying 9 vessels and 11 aircraft in cooperation with the pseudo-state.
According to Turkish Cypriot media reports, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan noted that 14 people have lost their lives and 14 others remain missing. “As Turkey, we support the search efforts. An investigation has been launched by the TRNC authorities, and eight crew members, including the ship’s captain, have been arrested,” he said.
Search and rescue operations are continuing, he said, regarding the ship that sank “due to human error. “I express my condolences to the victims and pray for God’s mercy upon those who lost their lives.”
