Ten people were killed on Monday in a pileup involving a tractor-trailer and ten other vehicles in Tizi Ouzou, east of Algiers, the country’s Civil Protection Agency announced.
Ten other people were injured in the accident, which occurred on a national highway about 100 kilometers from the capital, according to the same source.

This latest tragedy occurred just a few weeks after a bus overturned in late July in the province of Boumerdès, about 50 kilometers east of Algiers, in which 28 people lost their lives.
In 2025, a total of 3,838 people lost their lives and more than 37,000 were injured in traffic accidents and other incidents in Algeria, according to the relevant Algerian road safety agency.

According to the same agency, human error—and specifically inattention, lack of vigilance, speeding, dangerous passing maneuvers, and other risky maneuvers—is considered responsible for more than 96% of traffic accidents.
