A major
development in the case of the premeditated murder of 49-year-old businessman Stavros Demosthenous, which took place in Limassol on October 17, occurred with the start of the trial before the Limassol Criminal Court.
On the instructions of the Attorney General, criminal proceedings against three of the six defendants have been suspended.
Specifically, as stated by the representative of the prosecution, the first, the second, and the third defendants will no longer face the serious charges that the other three defendants, aged 28 and 31, are facing.

The 30-year-old inmate at the central prison and the 51-year-old man, who was linked to the case through forensic evidence when his DNA was found on gasoline cans placed in the Mitsubishi. The 51-year-old had been released on strict conditions requiring him to appear at the trial.
Following this development, the court postponed the previously scheduled dates and set a new date for September 16. On that date, the facts of the case will be presented, and the first defendant will be sentenced for the charge to which he pleaded guilty, while the trial proceedings for the remaining defendants will continue.
It should be noted that the defendants had pleaded “not guilty” to the 15 charges brought against them.
