AEK returned to the Champions League in the best possible way, as—playing excellent soccer at times—they defeated (1-0) over LASK Linz in their opening match of the group stage.
After the match, Marko Nikolić spoke to the press, saying he was pleased despite the fact that his team could have scored more goals.

Here is what he said in detail:
“An amazing atmosphere. Well done and thank you to the fans. We played very maturely for most of the match. We could have scored more to build a bigger lead. In any case, well done to my players.
On why he didn’t make immediate substitutions:
“There was no particular reason to make immediate changes to the team. It was a tough match, with a lot of intensity. We’re taking the three points and moving on to the next game.”
His comments on Marin’s goal:
“An incredible goal, an amazing sequence of plays. It was his reward for the excellent performance he put in today.”
