In a post on Tuesday evening, Tufan Erhürman stated that “on the one hand, through agreements concluded with various countries, primarily Israel and Greece, initiatives are being promoted that disregard the Turkish Cypriots and jeopardize lasting peace and stability on the island and in the region.
“On the other hand, domestically, instead of implementing new confidence-building measures, trust—to the extent that it existed—continues to be undermined by issues such as Barcelona, the festivals, the property issue, and the unilateral and biased decisions of the European Parliament resulting from initiatives by Greek Cypriot MEPs.”
He adds that he believes “not only Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, but also the international community, know that ‘writing history together’ is anything but easy.”
He also commented that “the good news of the day” is the decisions taken by a total of 12 countries—including, most notably, the United Kingdom, France, and Canada—regarding Israel.
