The system for the recovery and management of assets derived from illegal activities is being transitioned to a new framework as part of the implementation of the European Directive on the Recovery and Confiscation of Assets.
Preparations for implementing the new framework and coordination among the relevant agencies were the focus of an interministerial meeting at the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry, attended by the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, Mr. Michalis Damianou, the Minister of Justice and Public Order, Mr. Kostas Fytiris, and the Director of MOKAS.
Under the new system, the Insolvency Department assumes new responsibilities as the Asset Management Office (AMO), with the purpose of managing frozen and confiscated assets.
During the meeting, the key parameters for implementing the new framework and the necessary steps for the effective operation of the new Office were discussed.
Particular emphasis was placed on a clear division of responsibilities and effective coordination among all involved agencies to ensure a smooth transition and the effective implementation of the new system.
The agencies involved will continue to collaborate at the technical and administrative levels to complete the necessary actions.
