Tomorrow, Thursday, at 10:00 a.m., Ilia will bid a final farewell to First Lieutenant YANNIS BLESIAS, one of the two Air Force pilots who lost their lives in the tragic accident involving the F-4 Phantom aircraft.
The funeral service will be held at the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Nicholas, in the central square of Pyrgos, where relatives, friends, colleagues, and hundreds of citizens are expected to gather to bid farewell to the major.
Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias is also expected to attend the ceremony to honor the memory of the ill-fated major and his service to the Armed Forces.
Following the funeral procession, Yiannis Blesias will be taken to the First Cemetery of Pyrgos, where he will be laid to rest in the presence of his family, colleagues, and those who will be there to say their final “goodbye.”
A few hours later, the Air Force and Greece will experience yet another moment of deep sorrow, as the funeral of Captain Dimitris Petrou will be held in Katsika, Ioannina; the co-pilot of the ill-fated Phantom who was so unjustly taken from life.
