The court issued clear instructions to resolve all pretrial matters by next Friday, September 11, were issued by the court in connection with the private criminal prosecutions brought by the family of Thanasis Nikolaou, with the judge expressing dissatisfaction over yet another postponement of the case and calling on both sides to make arrangements so that the hearing can begin in October.
The indictment includes medical examiner Panikos Stavrianos, former Limassol Police Director Andreas Iatrou, former head of the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department Nikos Sophocleous, former head of Rural Police Christakis Nathanail, and former head of the Platres police station complex, Christakis Kapiliotis.
Despite the court’s previous instructions and guidance regarding the completion of pretrial motions, the defense raised a new pretrial objection and presented details regarding the revised indictment, a fact that forced the court to postpone today’s proceedings until September 11.
The judge noted that too much time has been spent in the pretrial phase, a situation that must come to an end, and expressed his intention to complete the proceedings by the end of September, so that the case can be scheduled for a hearing in early October.
According to the court, if no further motions are filed by Friday, the defendants will be charged and called upon to respond; however, if motions are filed, it will hear arguments from both sides and rule shortly thereafter, so that the case can proceed to the merits.
Meanwhile, on Friday, the court is expected to rule on the motion filed by defendant Christakis Kapiliotis, who until now has been representing himself, but now appears with a defense attorney whenever he deems it appropriate.
