If we want to move the process forward, it is important to create the favorable climate called for by the UN Secretary-General, and this requires the implementation of new measures of confidence-building and the avoidance of actions that undermine trust, as Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman emphasized during his meeting today with the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides.

In a post about their meeting, Mr. Erhurman said that their meeting lasted one hour and that the main topics were confidence-building measures and methodology.
He added that they were unable to reach an agreement on new Confidence-Building Measures and that during a “significant part of the meeting, we conveyed our views on external and internal actions that continue to undermine even the existing trust. We emphasized that if we want to move forward with the process, it is important to create the ‘conducive climate’ mentioned by Mr. Guterres, and this requires both the implementation of new confidence-building measures and the avoidance of initiatives that undermine trust,” she added.
UN Personal Envoy María Ángela Olguín, went on to say that she will not be coming to Cyprus before the UN General Assembly due to illness, while regarding the next meeting of the leaders, she said it will most likely take place in about a week, in the absence of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, and the date and time will be determined by their representatives.
Earlier, a brief statement from the “presidency” regarding the meeting between the two leaders noted that it was a one-on-one meeting.
