The statement: “The ‘Ta Pancypria’ Athletic Club (GSP), in light of the incidents that occurred during the APOEL–AEL soccer match on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at the GSP Stadium, wishes to highlight the immediate and effective intervention of the police and the decisive contribution of the GSP’s head of security and his team.
The presence and operational readiness of the police officers proved crucial in swiftly addressing the incidents and restoring order, thereby preventing further escalation. Throughout the match, there was full and continuous coordination between the police and the GSP security team. This cooperation—both before the start of the match, during the match, and after its conclusion—contributed significantly to the implementation of the planned security measures and the immediate handling of all incidents.
Particularly important was the contribution of the GSP’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) system, which made it possible to record incidents and identify individuals who may have been involved, among other things, in throwing objects and flares and in other actions.
The GSP unequivocally condemns all forms of violence at sports venues. Actions that endanger the safety of fans, staff, athletes, and law enforcement officers have no place in soccer or in sports in general. The Club also expresses its regret over the injury sustained by the 10-year-old girl, as well as that of a police officer, during the incidents, and wishes them a speedy and full recovery.”
