Speaking to reporters this afternoon as he arrived at an event organized by the “Enosis Neon Trust” Association in Nicosia, and when asked to comment on statements by DISY and AKEL regarding the financial aspects of the GSI, the President of the Republic said, “I am pleased because, for the first time since 2012, when the GSI issue first arose, we are seeing substantial progress toward the implementation of this specific project.

The involvement of the French investment firm was of decisive importance, both in terms of the project’s financial and geopolitical aspects, and everything is proceeding in accordance with the understanding and full agreement we have with the Greek Prime Minister.
In fact, we discussed the matter yesterday in Cairo, where we had been. Today, my Diplomatic Office held a meeting with the French Embassy exclusively on this specific issue. The Greek Prime Minister is in France today, where he will also meet with the French President to discuss this matter.
And, I repeat, following the discussions that took place in August between the French President and the Greek Prime Minister—for the first time since 2012, when this idea was first proposed— we are very close to the stage where we can begin to see results.”
