Developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, as well as the progress of the Greece- and Cyprus were the focus of the meeting between Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
The one-on-one meeting between the two leaders covered a broad agenda, which included issues of bilateral and European interest, as well as issues concerning stability and infrastructure in the wider region.

Particular emphasis was placed on the next steps for the Greece-Cyprus electricity interconnection, following the agreement for the investment firm Meridiam to become the majority shareholder in Great Sea Interconnector (GSI), which, according to the plan, is responsible for developing the project.
During the meeting, Mitsotakis and Macron exchanged views on the situation in the Eastern Mediterranean and developments regarding Iran and the Middle East. The Greek prime minister also briefed the French president on the results of the trilateral meeting between Greece, Cyprus, and Egypt, which took place the previous day in El Alamein.

The implications of the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz were also discussed, particularly with regard to energy costs. Mr. Mitsotakis emphasized the need for coordinated initiatives at the European level, aimed at addressing the impact on the economy and consumers.
The two leaders also discussed initiatives by Greece and France to restrict access to social media for children under the age of 15.
The issue has been high on the European agenda, with Emmanuel Macron having recently sent a letter to the President of the European Commission, calling for the implementation of a similar restriction at the European Union level. Kyriakos Mitsotakis’s visit to the French capital took place on the occasion of his participation in the International Space Summit.
