An 85-year-old man is in critical condition after being injured in a traffic accident that occurred yesterday afternoon in Nicosia.
The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m. at Archbishop Makarios Square, near the Anthoupoli refugee settlement.
According to the evidence currently under review, a car driven by a 38-year-old man was backing up—under circumstances currently under investigation—when it struck the 85-year-old man, who was walking behind the vehicle at the time.
The 85-year-old was transported by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where it was determined that he had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and was admitted for treatment. His condition is considered critical.
The 38-year-old driver underwent a breathalyzer test, which came back negative, and also underwent a preliminary drug test, which came back positive.
The Lakatamia Police Station is continuing its investigation.
