Asteras-Aris: Looking to bounce back in the Cup in Tripoli

Action in the League Phase
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Asteras Tripolis and Aris Aim to Bounce Back via… the Greek Cup! Both teams are coming off major league losses and will try to find a solution and soothe their wounds by earning their first “three points” in the tournament!

On the one hand, the Arkadians are in very poor form, despite significant reinforcements during the transfer window. Giorgos Antonopoulos’s team may have entered the League Phase by a fluke, but their performance so far proves they don’t deserve to be there or to be in contention for anything. After three league matches, Asteras has yet to earn a point, and if we factor in their loss to Levadiakos, their 0-4 record makes their task in today’s match even more difficult.

In the Superbet Greek Cup, the Appeals Committee ruled in their favor regarding the ineligible participation of a Levadiakos player in their head-to-head match, and they will now take their place in the League Phase of the competition.

On the field, starting goalkeeper Papadopoulos remains sidelined with an injury, while Kourbelis and Riera are not on the roster, unlike Bartolo, who has been included.

The roster: Kriaras, Hatzimmanuel, Kakadiaris, Chrysopoulos, Bartolo, Bouzoukis, Makenda, Eder, Ketou, Tsiko, Brorson, Tereziou, Kaltsas, Kotsiras, Mendez, Silva, Gkiteros, Ricardinho, Papakanellos, Zogou, Laskaris, Kimbioka, Perez

On the other side of the spectrum, things aren’t quite as bad for Aris, but the crushing defeat at the Allwyn Arena against AEK creates a need for an immediate response, especially since the big derby against PAOK is just around the corner!

Michalis Grigoriou’s team essentially undid everything they had built up in the first two rounds of the league, where they defeated Kalamata and OFI, showing great promise. In the Superbet Greek Cup, they comfortably overcame Anagennisi Karditsa (0-2) and advanced to the group stage.

Once again, the Thessaloniki-based team has not announced its roster, but Fabiano will likely be rested ahead of the match at Toumba, now that Donis and Kerkez are no longer with the team.

Referees: Tzilos (Komissopoulou, Valiotis, 4th official Katsikogiannis, VAR: Koubarakis, Papapetrou)
