The tragic death of the 76-year-old missing woman, Erato Athanasiou, has been officially confirmed, as DNA tests conducted on the remains found last week in the Paphos forest confirmed that they belong to her.
According to the police, following forensic examinations, the human remains discovered on September 3, 2026, at the location “Kallinikos,” within the Paphos State Forest, were identified (September 9, 2026) using DNA analysis and confirmed to be those of the missing Erato Athanasiou, 76 years old, from Tsakistra.
It should be noted that eleven days after the frantic efforts to locate the 75-year-old woman who had gone missing in the Kampos area of Tsakistra, a body was found early Thursday morning on the edge of the Paphos State Forest. The body, as all indications suggested, belonged to the unfortunate Erato Athanasiou, who had been missing since the morning of Sunday, August 23.
Following the tragic conclusion of the search efforts, members of the volunteer organizations that had participated in the days-long search to locate the elderly woman paid their respects through posts on social media.
Her clothes had been identified by her relatives from the very beginning; however, the authorities were also awaiting her scientific identification via DNA.
