With even more children’s smiles, creativity, and enthusiasm, the the 2nd hands-on Children’s Nutrition and Cooking Workshop organized by ALPHAMEGA Supermarkets, held at the main campus of the University of Nicosia. Following the enthusiastic response from the children and their families at the first event, ALPHAMEGA Supermarkets welcomed children ages 8 to 14 for the second time, offering them a unique hands-on experience in which knowledge, cooking, and play all came together.
The workshop was organized by ALFAMEGA Supermarkets as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program “Children, Nutrition & Health.” The goal of the workshop was to inspire the young participants to develop a love for healthy eating and cooking and to use their free time creatively away from screens.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Chef and Brand Ambassador of ALFAMEGA Supermarkets, Christina Christofi, the Cyprus Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists, and with the support of Intercollege’s Culinary Arts Programs.
The response from families and children for the second workshop was once again impressive, with applications to participate, submitted via the ALFAMEGA Hypermarkets Social Responsibility Programs website, far exceeding the number of available spots. As a result, the children who participated in the workshop were selected through an online lottery. The workshop welcomed children from all districts of Cyprus and was held in two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The day began with the educational segment, an interactive journey into the world of nutrition, where members of the Cyprus Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists spoke to the children about the importance of proper nutrition, daily exercise, and proper hydration, as well as the nutritional value of food, through examples, games, and discussion.
Next, the beloved chef, Christina Christofi, took over to guide the young participants through the cooking portion of the event. The children put on their aprons and oven mitts, immediately slipped into the role of little chefs, and got to work in the kitchen. In a fun atmosphere, they prepared two favorite healthy recipes with their own hands: healthy pizza and no-bake chocolate cookies. In this way, they discovered firsthand that a balanced diet can be full of flavor, color, and creativity.
At the same time, through this hands-on cooking experience, the children gained useful knowledge and skills in the kitchen, such as working together, following instructions, and applying basic kitchen hygiene rules.
The workshop concluded with all the young chefs receiving a commemorative certificate of participation from ALPHAMEGA Supermarkets, leaving them with lots of smiles and wonderful memories of an experience filled with valuable knowledge, creativity, and flavor!
The Director of Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility at ALFAMEGA Supermarkets, Ms. Natasa Konstantinidou, warmly thanked the children who participated in the workshop and stated:
“The smiles and sense of fulfillment we saw once again today on the children’s faces are the most beautiful confirmation that when knowledge becomes an experience, it stays with us much longer. When a child learns, creates, collaborates, and has fun, that knowledge takes on real meaning and can become a part of their life.
The energy and enthusiasm of the children we see in these activities fill us with joy and encourage us to continue organizing similar workshops, which will inspire our young friends to embrace healthy eating, creativity, and a healthy lifestyle. We look forward, therefore, to welcoming even more children to our upcoming workshops, which will be announced on ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets’ official social media channels.”
ALPHAMEGA Supermarkets, with a steadfast commitment to promoting children’s health, education, and well-being, continue to make substantial investments in children through the “Child, Nutrition & Health” program and by creating hands-on activities such as the Children’s Nutrition and Cooking Workshop. For ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets, each such experience can be a small step—the beginning of a healthier lifestyle—with habits and values for both today and the future.
