Cyril Desers will ultimately miss only one Panathinaikos game, and that will be tonight’s match against Kifisia, which is the rescheduled opener of the new Super League season.
The “Greens’” forward was ejected—following an on-field review—during Sunday’s match against PAOK, when the referee ruled that the way he clashed with his opponent constituted a foul that warranted a red card.
The initial suspension was for three matches; however, Panathinaikos filed an appeal, which was heard on Wednesday, and the result was announced on Thursday morning.
Since Panathinaikos argued that the incident was merely a shove and not an act of violence, both the club and the player were vindicated. As a result, Desers’ suspension will be for only one game, and he will be available as usual starting Sunday for the match against Panetolikos.
