The case came to light following a complaint that was immediately investigated by police authorities. According to the police, at noon on September 7, an unknown individual called a residence and, under the pretext that the parents of a minor were about to be fined and arrested, managed to convince him to hand over a sum of money and valuables.
The police officers who took over the investigation subsequently managed to locate and identify the two alleged perpetrators, who were arrested and are to be brought before the Rhodes Public Prosecutor’s Office.
In light of this specific case, the police are once again issuing a warning to the public, as there have recently been reports of fraud committed by con artists who pose, either over the phone or in person, as accountants, police officers, doctors, or employees of electric utilities and other organizations.
The perpetrators attempt to instill fear and pressure in their victims, demanding money or valuable items, and often target the elderly or other vulnerable individuals.
