The meeting between Israeli President Isaac Herzog and President Nicos Christodoulides at the Presidential Palace has concluded.
“I bring a message of friendship from Israel,” the Israeli President said during his meeting with Nicos Christodoulides.
The two presidents met today in Nicosia as part of the Israeli President’s one-day working visit to Cyprus.
During their private meeting at noon, President Christodoulides, welcoming President Herzog, said, among other things, that the President of Israel is no stranger to Cyprus but has deep family roots on the island.
He added that during their talks they would explore ways to further strengthen strategic cooperation between the two countries in all sectors, such as tourism, trade, security, energy, and defense, noting that, with regard to tourism, flights between the two countries this summer reached 200 per week, up from 140 per year.
He added that during their talks, they will review regional developments and exchange views on how two like-minded countries, such as Cyprus and Israel, can work together to foster stability, security, and cooperation.
For his part, President Herzog said, among other things: “I love your country; I grew up loving it since I was a child, and it’s always wonderful to visit and see Cyprus’s growth and development.”
Addressing President Christodoulides, he said: “You are an exceptional friend, and we value our dialogue with you, which is open and sincere, on a wide range of issues.”
He added that his dream and hope is that one day the presidents of Lebanon, Cyprus, and Israel will be able to meet here, “because I believe we can move toward peace in the region” and ensure that terrorism is eradicated and life flourishes among nations and peoples, for the prosperity of the entire region and the wider world.
“I bring a message of friendship from Israel, and I hope that together we will be able to further strengthen our unique partnership—a very important partnership between our peoples and nations,” emphasized the President of Israel.
Following the private meeting, a working lunch was held, attended by members of the delegations from both countries.
