"The hope that there will be political will on the part of all parties at the upcoming meetings in New York so that the UN Secretary-General can move forward with an expanded conference," was expressed by the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides.
In remarks on Thursday evening, when asked whether our side had been informed by the UN about the communication between the Secretary-General’s personal envoy and António Guterres, the President replied that we had not been briefed and that we knew from the Secretary-General himself that a phone call would take place, since it was not feasible for Ms. Olgin to travel to New York.

“We will certainly be briefed within the next twenty-four hours. At the same time, the European Union has begun preparatory work to create the conditions for the resumption of talks, taking into account the very important role it can play,” he said.
He added that “the week in New York will be critical; it will be decisive. I hope there will be political will on everyone’s part, that there will be a positive response, so that the Secretary-General can move forward with an expanded conference.”
Regarding Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s wish for Cyprus to host a Cyprus-Israel-Lebanon trilateral meeting-Lebanon, the President said that this is indicative of how neighboring states view us.
“We are the member state in the region that engages with all neighboring states; we have excellent relations—outstanding relations—with all neighboring states, and I am pleased that they recognize this role of ours,” he noted.
“From there, whatever we can do to create conditions of security, cooperation, and stability in our region—rest assured that we will do it,” he emphasized.
