The Imanol Alguacil era began yesterday at Olympiacos, with the Basque coach immediately rolling up his sleeves. After all, he doesn’t want to waste even half a day of work, and his goal is to instill his philosophy in the team as quickly as possible.
Among his first instructions, José Luis Medilbar’s successor called for discipline and 100% effort in training and matches, while on the field, the first aspects he focused on were high-pressure defense and quick ball movement, demanding that his players maintain a high level of intensity and speed at all times.

Alguathil, who has been watching a lot of video these past few days to get to know his roster better, will announce his first roster today, ahead of tomorrow’s match against OFI at the “G. Karaiskakis” Stadium (7:00 p.m.). It’s very difficult to predict the starting lineup, since the new coach hasn’t yet revealed his strategy.
He has already been joined in Athens by two staff members, a fitness coach (Christos Mourikis remains on staff) and a goalkeeper coach (Panagiotis Agriogiannis is leaving), and they will be joined by another assistant as well as a performance analyst.
Meanwhile, Olympiacos continues its efforts to sign a forward, with the transfer window closing next Tuesday (September 15). On the list are two 33-year-old free agents with high salaries: Argentine Mauro Icardi and Portuguese Paulinho.
