The Fire Department was alerted on Thursday evening, specifically at 10:42 p.m., when a call was received reporting a fire in the kitchen of an apartment in a residential complex in Oroklini.
The Oroklini Fire Station responded with two fire trucks.
The apartment’s tenant suffered burns while attempting to extinguish the fire. However, the tenant refused to be taken by ambulance to the hospital for medical treatment.
Police were also present at the scene. Fire department personnel fully extinguished the fire and then inspected and ventilated the premises.
The fire was caused by oil overheating in a cooking pot, which was placed on a lit stove. The fire caused damage to the cooking utensil, and part of the wooden countertop and kitchen equipment was also affected. The smoke also damaged the paint on the room’s walls.
