A spectacular drone show took place in the skies over New York City on Wednesday night (9/9) ahead of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. 2,977 drones formed the Twin Towers and sent a symbolic message. Each drone represents a human life lost on that day 25 years ago.
According to “abc7ny,” the artwork, titled “2,977 Lights Over New York Harbor,” consisted of 2,977 lights (drones), which soared over the harbor and depicted the outline of the Twin Towers to actual architectural scale.
Over New York Harbor, 2,977 drones lit up the sky in the shape of the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers—one drone for each victim of the September 11 attacks.
Never forget.

According to the organizers, this show was created in collaboration with members of the September 11 community, including relatives, survivors, and first responders. The project was unveiled ahead of Friday’s commemorative event and was presented as a free public event focused on reflection and unity.
The organizers noted that the aerial performance was created by a group of people, including Brenda Berkman, a first responder with the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) and artist; Tim Brown, a member of the New York City Fire Department’s (FDNY) first-response team in 1993 and 2001; Terri Strada, president of “9/11 Families United” and widow of Tom Strada; Jim Smith, whose wife, New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer Moira Smith, was killed in the attacks; and Genevieve Schiller, daughter of Steven Schiller.
