A dispute in Turkey between the manager of a building in Maltepe and the couple who owned it—and who had lived in Germany for years—ended in bloodshed.
According to Turkish media reports, it all began when the couple who owned the building initiated eviction proceedings against the tenants.
Among them was Mehmet Takcaya, who, according to Sabah, had served as the building’s manager for 20 years, collecting rent.
On Thursday at noon, the couple who owned the seven-story building arrived in the neighborhood and, according to neighbors, got into an argument with Takaya. At some point, the situation escalated, and Taksaya opened fire, killing 61-year-old Osman Akyol and his wife, Nursen. The couple’s lawyer, who was with them at the time, was also wounded in the shooting and was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
After the shooting, police arrived at the scene, while Taksaya barricaded himself inside the building and opened fire on them.
Eventually, after several hours, police managed to arrest the building manager, who now faces serious charges for his actions.
