A message in English, stating that there was a bomb inside a piece of luggage on the aircraft that would explode in 20 minutes, triggered the activation of standard security protocols at Larnaca Airport and the grounding of the flight to Rome, according to CNA.
According to the same reports, passengers are undergoing additional security checks, while the required security procedures are currently underway.
The aircraft, carrying approximately 190 passengers, was scheduled to depart at 11:10 a.m. bound for Rome.
All passengers have disembarked from the aircraft, taking their personal belongings with them, and have returned to the airport terminal for screening.
Meanwhile, the unloading of the luggage from the aircraft has begun, and it is being inspected by specially trained dogs. Once this inspection is complete, the luggage is expected to pass through the X-ray screening system again.
This will be followed by an inspection of the aircraft cabin, and, once all required procedures have been completed and it is determined that the threat is not genuine, the boarding process is expected to resume.
