Fuel prices are at particularly high levels, approaching the record highs recorded in July 2022, as the President of the Cyprus Consumers’ Association told CNA.
When asked to comment on the Cabinet’s decision yesterday, Thursday, to extend the measure reducing the excise tax rates on motor fuels, Mr. Drousiotis noted that although this measure saves consumers approximately 8.3 euro cents per liter, the cost is already very high.
He recalled that on July 12, 2022, specifically, and despite the fact that consumer relief measures were already in place, fuel prices hit record highs, reaching €1.886 per liter for 95-octane unleaded gasoline and €2.053 for diesel.
Mr. Drousiotis also expressed concern that forecasts indicate fuel prices will continue to rise. He noted that current fuel prices are about 9–10 euro cents lower than the record highs of 2022, with 95-octane unleaded reaching up to €1.718 and diesel up to €1.989 per liter.
