It was as if that 0-0 draw with Bayern Munich the previous matchday were a harbinger of what was to come for Schalke.
The “Royal Blues” were in Berlin on Friday night to kick off the third matchday of this year’s Bundesliga and managed to secure their first victory with a final score of 3-1 to celebrate for the first time since their big return to the top flight!
In fact, they secured the win with spectacular goals, with Gosens striking in the 25th minute— but showing complete respect for his former team by refraining from celebrating, while, in the 46th minute, Osik gave the visitors a two-goal lead with a thunderous shot from the side of the box!
It should be noted that the game had several minutes of stoppage time, as in the 70th minute the referee suffered an injury and had to be replaced!
In the minutes that followed after the 90th minute, Skark managed to score and reignite the match in the 90’+6′, but Wober, in the 90’+13′… dashed his hopes, sealing the final 3-1 victory for the triumphant Schalke.
This was Union’s second consecutive loss following their heavy 4-0 defeat by Bayer Leverkusen, although they had earned a point against Eintracht in their season opener with an impressive 3-3 draw.
