The Coordinating Committee of Parents’ Associations of Ypsona Public Schools decided to suspend the class boycott that had been scheduled for Monday, September 14, following written confirmation that the requests it had submitted to the Ministry of Education had been met, according to an announcement by the Coordinating Committee of Parents’ Associations of Ypsona Public Schools.

As reported, on Friday afternoon, a meeting was held at the Apostolos Loukas Kolossi High School between the Committee and the Presidents of the Elementary and Secondary Education Federations and the Directors of Elementary and Secondary Educationfrom the Ministry of Education, Mario Stylianidis and George Koutsidis, respectively.

As reported, the parents’ requests were addressed in writing in a letter presented during the meeting, and additional clarifications requested by the Coordinating Committee were also accepted. The revised letter is expected to be sent on Monday.

Among other things, the Technical Services certify that the portable classrooms have been repaired and are safe for students, while, according to the announcement, the Fire Department has inspected and approved the safety of both the schools and the portable classrooms.

At the same time, a construction plan with a timeline was provided for the expansion of the 3rd Preschool and the 3rd Elementary School, and for the inclusion of these projects in the budget. The Ministry also accepted the request for a more detailed timeline regarding the construction of the 4th Elementary School and the 4th Preschool.

According to the parents, the Ministry further recognized the need to establish a second middle school and a second high school in the area and approved the relevant project proposal, which must be reviewed by the relevant government agencies for finalization and approval. Monday’s letter is also expected to include a written commitment to expedite the process, and an official from the Technical Services will be designated to provide updates to parents on a quarterly basis.

In light of the above, the Coordinating Committee decided to suspend the measures, clarifying, however, that it will continue to monitor the implementation of the commitments “until their completion.”

The Parents’ Associations extend their thanks, among others, to the Ministry of Education, the Mayor of Kourion, Pantelis Georgiou, the President of the School Board, Herodotos Neophytou, the Members of Parliament from Limassol, and the Federations of Primary and Secondary Education Parents’ Associations of Limassol for their support and cooperation.
