Police officers arrested a 25-year-old woman in connection with a car arson case that took place last May in Nicosia. A 24-year-old man was also arrested in June in connection with the case, and charges against him have been filed.
The 25-year-old woman was arrested around 10:30 a.m. today, pursuant to a court warrant issued following testimony obtained during the investigation of the case by the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department.
According to the evidence under investigation, at around 2:40 a.m. on May 26, 2026, a fire broke out in a vehicle that was parked outside the home of its 34-year-old owner in a neighborhood of Nicosia. The vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire, and investigations revealed that the incident was an act of arson.
As part of the investigation into the case, a 24-year-old man was arrested on June 3, also pursuant to a court warrant. On June 4, a court order was issued for his six-day detention, and on June 10, the arson case was scheduled for trial. The court ordered that the 24-year-old remain in custody as a defendant until the next hearing, which was set for October 16, 2026.
