The body of the unforgettable Giorgos Mazonakis will lie in state at a “public wake” from Sunday afternoon (September 13, 2026) until the following day, when the singer’s funeral will take place in his hometown of Nikaia.
According to the official announcement from Giorgos Mazonakis’s family, the “public wake” will be held at the Holy Church of the Holy Trinity in Nikaia from 7:30 p.m. until the early hours of Monday morning.

The singer’s funeral will be held in the presence of close family members at the Third Cemetery of Athens on Monday, September 14, at 12:00 p.m.
The Mazonakis family requests that, instead of sending wreaths, those attending support the Greek Volunteer Center, Humanity Greece.

“With broken hearts and unspeakable sorrow, we inform you that on Sunday, September 13, the body of our only son, George, will lie in repose at the Holy Church of the Holy Trinity in Nikaia, his beloved church and parish, so that all friends who wish to do so may bid him a final farewell in person.
The “public wake,” as a tribute of respect and love, will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will last until the early hours of Monday morning.
The funeral will be held with only close family members present at the Third Cemetery of Athens on Monday, September 14.
