The Hamas networks in Germany and Austria, on the one hand, and Cyprusand Greece, on the other, where they were planning a series of terrorist attacks against Israelis and Jewish centers to mark the anniversary of the October 7 terrorist attack.
One of the seven individuals arrested in Germany for participating in a Hamas arms-supply network was extradited from Cyprus. He is 25-year-old Livazeno Kamel M. who had been arrested by Cypriot authorities at Larnaca Airport on March 6 upon his arrival from Lebanon and was extradited to Germany on March 19.
Among the seven arrested were three Lebanese nationals, one of whom was acting as a double agent, as he was simultaneously an informant for the German authorities. An automatic rifle, 13 handguns, and 700 rounds of ammunition were found in the network’s hideout. The trial of the seven in Berlin is considered the most significant terrorism trial in recent decades.
The German network is linked to the Hamas network that was planning attacks in Cyprus and was dismantled last May by the Cypriot Police in cooperation with EUROPOL and foreign intelligence agencies, following the discovery of a hideout in Larnaca.
The mastermind behind the network is a 41-year-old Palestinian, a high-ranking Hamas official, who was extradited to Cyprus on July 17 from Indonesia. He is the so-called recruiter and leader of the network in Cyprus.
For the first time in its history, Hamas is exporting terrorism to Europe by recruiting Palestinians from neighboring countries who operate under the radar of security authorities.
Four Palestinians were referred for direct trial in connection with the case, including the so-called professor, a 38-year-old man who came to Cyprus from Malaysia with the ultimate goal of manufacturing explosives and selecting targets. Members of the network had contact at the organization’s hideout on Governor’s Coast with a mysterious German, whose identity remains unknown.
