While a program is currently in effect to provide a total of one million euros in aid to eligible farmers who have submitted an application, to cover part of the cost of purchasing fertilizers, pesticides, and other agricultural supplies, the Ministry of Agriculture is simultaneously preparing two new programs to address the rising costs, with an estimated total cost of 1.5 million euros and expected completion in early 2027, said on Saturday Ilias Myrianthos, Commissioner for the Environment and Animal Welfare.

Mr. Myrianthos, who represented President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides at the 1st Simos Agricultural Festival “AgroFest,” held on Saturday in Simos Square, also stated that the Cabinet has approved the framework to facilitate farmers’ access to financing, and agreements with participating banking institutions are expected to be signed. The new financing products will aim to support investments in agricultural holdings and attract young people to the agricultural sector.

Also in September, the Ministry of Agriculture will launch a broad consultation on the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) proposal for the period after 2027, he said, emphasizing that the participation of producers themselves is essential so that the new priorities reflect the real needs of the agricultural community.

Mr. Myrianthos addressed the difficulties faced by farmers and rural communities, noting that drought, extreme weather events, and rising production costs significantly impact producers’ incomes and make planning difficult.

At the same time, he announced a symbolic government grant of €1,000 for the first Simos Agricultural Festival, as a contribution toward covering the event’s expenses.

The President of the Paphos District Local Government Organization, Charalambos Pittokopitis, who congratulated the Community Council and the organized groups of Simos on the initiative.

Mr. Pittokopitis expressed his belief that the Agricultural Festival can become a permanent institution, contributing to the further promotion, development, and progress of the community.

For his part, the community leader of Simos, Andreas Athanasiou, emphasized the importance of the event in highlighting the community’s agricultural character, as well as in preserving traditional elements and local production.
